I had the most wonderful dream that all the many plans for my daughter's birthday had been made, the cake was purchased, entertainment prepared, and my husband had even hand delivered all of the hand written invitations. As you would expect, then I snapped out of it and recalled parties don't plan themselves and I kept having a ludicrous measure of work to do.
A seven year olds birthday party cannot be that tricky to plan, right? My hubby had told me not to get stressed, there wasn't that much to do. As you would expect he was not the one who had a list a mile long of party supplies to find, hire, borrow, buy and book. Most importantly I knew my partner would not be able to barbeque an adequate amount of food for 20 kids and 30 adults, so I had to have catering. Let me tell you, there are more than enough caterers out there to feed a hungry gang of sharks several times over.
So the grub was sorted but what about drinks? I presumed at least two buckets of ice and some alcohol-free drink would do that was until I heard about my daughter's best friend's party, complete with wet bar and bar staff. Costs were already getting out of hand so I opted to hire a slushy machine as a back up knowing both adults and youngsters would adore it.
Of course the adults would not be too happy sitting in a circle on the ground, so I found some surprisingly inexpensive tables and chairs for rent. I even got a special chair for the birthday girl, complete with velvet pillow. For a little bit of fun I bought some table decorations to tie in with the theme (fairies, naturally), which were inexpensive and truly tied the entire party area together.
Renting lighting was real forethought on my part, it let the party to continue on into the sundown. Though I left the music to the last minute, I somehow managed to score one of the state's best children's DJ services. As an afterthought I also picked one added extra to really surprise my girl. With such a huge range of jumping castles at actually reasonable rental prices why not! Party supplies including balloons and party hats were not left out either and made for some great pictures.
