The kids are blessed with excellent hearing, while mine has been sub-standard most of my life. My wife and kids were constantly telling me to turn the volume down.
All three buttons are in a 1 1/2 by 3/8 inch space with almost no way to feel which button you want. Not an easy task for any fingers, much less older fingers. Guys if you are ever banished to the Man Cave and still catch hell for the TV or movie being up too loud......worry no more. I realize they are a lot of money (I managed to get mine for under $230) but I think in the long run they are going to be worth every penny. If they're in a completely different room with a closed door, you might be able to. I haven't heard any complaints about that, but lifting them off my head, I can tell they're definitely broadcasting the music outwards quite a bit. My biggest gripe is the range. Advertised 320', which is quite a long ways.
I will experiment with them soon and update this review. Range can severely suffer if you start walking around corners or have too much between the headphones and the transmitter.
The rechargeable batteries last a really long time, and charge very quickly. The base station is stylish, and the charge mechanism is really easy (there are three contact points on the top, and when you rest your headphones on top, it charges them).
I'm impressed by the clarity and 'crispness' of the sound and good reproduction of lower frequencies. Comfortable to wear even for an extended time - easy to set up and use Cons: - power button on base station difficult to operate with one hand. I can live with that when watching TV, and it certainly is "same difference" when consuming audio-only sources. Brief dropouts can occur when my microwave oven is on and I happen to pass within 2' of it. I have adjusted to this by switching the headphones around so the volume control is on the side away from where I typically lie down. Second, I thought how nice it would be if the headset had a line out so I could choose to connect a speaker at a remote location if I wanted not to be wearing the headset.
First let me tell you the good things. Yes, the quality of the sound is excellent.
The sound quality of the 180 is only marginally better than the 120 and the positioning of the controls makes it more difficult to use. If you buy additional headsets you will need to sync them to the base before they'll function. This is simply not true, and I don't know why he told me this. This is not a negative about the 180's since maybe nobody is looking for this feature except me, but it is a severe mis-statement of fact by a Sennheiser representative. My previous set of headphones was a wired set of Grado SR-60s, and these sound every bit as good to me - but wireless! Indoor range seems to be about 60 feet through 5 or 6 walls.
